People start to heal the moment the moment they feel heard.
- Cheryl Richardson
Hi, I'm Kristen.
I'm a licensed mental health counselor specializing in neurodivergencies, and I love what I do.
My specialties include being an ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) and working with folks who have been diagnosed with or suspect they may have ADHD. I have completed my training and supervision in the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) for the treatment of PTSD and C-PTSD and received my training from a certified EMDRIA trainer. I received my Masters of Counseling from Oregon State University and have a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Political Science.
I identify as a neurodivergent fat cisgender woman and mother of three neurodivergent kids. The loud, quirky, passionate, loving, creative little weirdo I was as a child spent a significant part of my life feeling like there was something inherently wrong with me. I loved people but struggled to read the room. I tried my best (and often failed) to keep it under wraps so I could seem more acceptable to others. It wasn't until I was in graduate school to become a counselor that a psychologist asked the life-altering question, "Has anyone ever assessed you for ADHD?" That moment and the subsequent answers that came gave me a new way to conceptualize both myself and many of the difficulties I had faced in my life. Understanding that I felt different because I was different shifted my focus, increased my own self-compassion, and gave me access to the tools that I needed to live a life with less chaos and anxiety. I love that I get to be a professional support for others in their own growth and self-discovery.
A few more things I can share are that I am obsessed with plants (my office is basically a greenhouse). I love baking, musicals, Brandi Carlile, mental healthcare memes, It's Always Sunny In Philidelphia, and petting all dogs. As I wear many hats, at times I am admittedly a little disorganized and occasionally not great at responding to emails, but I really love what I do and appreciate the grace others are willing to give if I am slow to respond. If clients are comfortable, I am occasionally accompanied in session by my assistant, Nacho, pictured below.
Thanks for taking the time to stop by. Let me know if you'd like to talk more about how I might be able to help.
